Oh Babies...

Today I spent the last hour and 20 minutes sitting with four children under the age of 4. I wasn't by myself {like I would be able to survive that!}. But I was there. And I have to admit, there is something so fun and joyful about having a two and a half year old sitting on my lap pointing to pictures in a book. My immediate thought was, "can they just come out this age?" Let's face it, the idea of sleep deprivation scares the crap out of me. Those of you who know me know I need my sleep! But I really can't wait for that moment. They just get so much more fun when they jabber and make little sense.

Yes, as my dear friend Amber pointed out last week, I have baby brain. It's kind of hard not to. So many people my age have kids {yes, multiple} or are having kids. There's babies everywhere! I sit with two littles during church to get my fix. It also doesn't help that the little monkey in my life lives in Illinois.

But are we ready to have kids? That's really another thought that scares me. I mean, I want kids. We both do. I probably want more than him. And let's face it, I'm not getting any younger. For some reason nearing 30 just seems like impending doom. I really don't want to be in my 50s with kids graduating high school. Oy vey! Just don't know what to do!

  1. Obviously when to have children is a very personal decision, but I will tell you the thing that my mom told me: You will NEVER be ready.

Sounds ominous, doesn't it? But it's the truth. Unless you are fortunate enough to be ridiculously wealthy, there will never be enough money, which means one or both of you will always have to work. Which then means time and energy will always be limited (and that sleep deprivation will always be a bummer!). On and on it goes. So, I'd say give up waiting on the perfect time and listen to your heart: when wanting a baby reaches the point of feeling that something is truly missing from your life, then you'll know it's time, and you will be ready enough.

    Good luck!
