Yup...I'm One of THOSE!!

If there's one important thing regarding saving that my mom taught me, it is most definitely coupon related.  Yes, I am a couponer.  No, I do not hold up lines.  No, I do not dumpster-dive for sales ads.  She taught me better than that.  Ü  I actually started a blog at the beginning of the year for all of my savings/coupon endeavors, but that failed in less than a month.  But I wish to share with you today's bargain.  Because it's pretty awesome.

BEHOLD!

This is what 40 (14 oz.) boxes of Uncle Ben's white and brown rice looks like.  Why, you may ask?  {My buddy Brandon actually did.}  Well, us Mormons are all about food storage.  Okay, we're actually all about a lot of things, but that's one thing we're pretty good at.  Because you never know when you may be out of a job or a disaster has hit.  It's all about being prepared for what's to come.  And because we really like rice.  Ü  And it's nice to donate to shelters, too!

So how much did all of this cost?  $12.84.  Savings?  Don't fall out of your chair.  $91.76.  Not. Even. Kidding.  You really can't beat that.  So I ask...why not?

How did I do it?  Well, I'm not about to spend 40+ hours a week like the crazy couponers cutting out coupons and storing them and organizing and blah blah blah.  Those people are nuts.  I mean, seriously, you could get a part-time job and make more than what you save.  I like to peruse the sales ad and then find coupons that match with what I'm interested in buying.  Then, I try to find them on eBay.  Yup, I buy them eBay.  Technically, it's illegal to sell coupons.  You're actually buying the service of someone else hunting them down, cutting them, and sending them to you.  I generally buy in lots of 10 or 20 for about $1.00 to $2.00.  Not a bad deal if my overall savings is more than $2.00 {which it usually always is}.

So that's my secret.  No big secret really.  It's just what I do.  And it means that I don't have to buy rice for a very long time.  And other stuff, too.

Pictures of our food storage.  This was shortly after we moved into the house a year ago.  I need to take some pictures of it now.  Ü

Garage shelves for items that could withstand critters if needed.  This is actually pre-upright freezer.

Under the stairs pantry.  This is for extra stuff that I don't want cluttering my kitchen pantry.  It actually doesn't look like this now.
