27 Things I Want to Do Before I Die

This morning I had all intentions of blogging about something that really burns me up.  But instead of whining {I'll do that another day}, I found inspiration from a fellow blogger to make a list of the 27 things I want to do before I die.  Or...my Bucket List.  I have actually never made a bucket list, but I do know there are some things that I have wanted to do and have done.  I will include those on the list and highlight them.  The only rules that she posted were that "you couldn’t put too much thought into it, you just had to let it flow naturally and it could be as profound or relatively insignificant as you wanted it to be."  So here goes:

1.  Visit the canals in Venice.  Not only that, but take a gondola ride through them.  {Best summer of my life!}

2.  Be an amazing mother.  I don't mean where people look at me and think "Man, she's amazing!"  I mean when people look at my kids they go, "Man, they must have an amazing mother!"  {I'm pretty sure that's what people think about my mom when they look at me. Ü }

3.  Give back to the community in some big, anonymous way.  I still really haven't figured out how this is going to happen.  I've done community service through church and what-not.  But I want to do something more.

4.  Take care of my parents when they're old and senile.  This is kind of an inside joke with my dad, but in all seriousness, I don't want my parents growing old in a nursing home unless it's beyond my control.  I was raised to take care of your family.  The good, the bad, and everything in between.

5.  Continue playing the sax.  Just before I left BYU in 2004, I sold my sax.  My mom found one in pretty good shape at a garage sale in 2010.  I played it at a church Christmas concert once that year.  That was it.

6.  Work for the VA Hospital.  I'm going to school for Psychology, but I don't want to be a clinical psychologist in the traditional sense.  I want to work with war veterans and the older generation.  I feel like I have a lot to learn from them.

7.  Work for LDS Family Services.  Another career path I'd love to travel down.

8.  Travel, travel, travel.  I love a good adventure.  Michael and I would love to go to Scotland next year and Italy the next.  It would be amazing if that could happen!

9.  Have a big, happy family.  For some reason, I've wanted 10 kids for the last few years.  I want to have 5 of our own and adopt 5.  There are so many children out there that need a good home.  I feel like we have that to give...when the time is right, of course!

10.  Experience food from other cultures.  I used to be a pretty picky eater.  Now I'm just semi-picky.  I've come a long way, but there's still a long way to go.  Ü

11.  Graduate college.  Maybe I should have put this before #6, but I really just thought about it.  It may not be a big deal to some people, but for me, it's going to be a proud moment when I finally graduate.

12.  Let people in.  I mean, really let people in.

13.  Watch the entire Star Wars series.  Not even lying, I've never seen them.  I saw one, but only about 30 minutes of it.

14.  Visit Pixar studios.  Seriously, how awesome would that be?!

15.  Spend New Year's Eve in Times Square.  Michael and I tried it, but didn't make it past 8 pm.  I'm still counting it.  In my opinion, if you can put up with 6 hours being shoved and man-handled, it's good enough.  Next time we will do more than a 24-hour trip and hopefully not pass out before 10 pm.

16.  See the leaves change in the Smokey Mountains.  I've always had such a love for the mountains.  They're just so beautiful and they add so much color to the landscape.  I've never actually just taken a drive through strange back roads and just soaked it all in.

17.  Take more pictures.  Not that I don't take enough! With tiny cameras and camera phones, it makes it so easy to document one's life now.  I love it.

18.  Visit Mount Rushmore.  Seriously, never done it, but always wanted to.

19.  Take a cross-country trip across the USA.  Don't know how we'll afford that, but I'm thinking something along the lines of camping out in the car on the way.  My brother and his wife did this after he graduated college.  Maybe that's what we'll plan on doing too.  Ü

20.  Visit every LDS Temple in the world.  Long stretch, but it's on there.

21.  Take an Alaskan cruise.  And out of this heat!  Yes, please!

22.  Appreciate life.  Pretty much sums up that one.

23.  Read more.  Not just textbooks, which seem to consume every aspect of my life lately.  But real books, with plots and characters and dynamics.

24.  Nourish my relationship with my siblings.  Living far away from each other makes that a little hard.  I do miss them a lot.

25.  Spoil my nephew, Micah.  Yeah, that's always being done.  Can't help it, he's just so dang precious!!

26.  Revisit my childhood.  I'd love to be able to go back to all the places that I grew up and reminisce.  One day.

27.  Live.  I don't want to die before the previous 26 happen.  {I did steal this one from Renee's blog.  I just felt it was the perfect ending.}

Shout out to Renee King for the inspiration!!

  1. I bet you get to do all that and more! :) Love your wonderfully giving ways.

    One of the neat things I read about was doing random acts of kindness on your birthday - one random act for each year you've been around. I did it for my 50th and it was so much fun! People loved it and it made me happy as a little monkey!

    (I've been on a gondola ride in Venice and it is beautiful, isn't it? So glad I got to do that!)

    1. What a neat idea! I love it! I guess I need to come up with 27 random acts of kindness by Friday! =P

      I did LOVE the gondola ride. It's pricey, but it was completely worth. An experience that I couldn't get anywhere else! Thanks for reading!
