My Biggest Fan

Don't worry, this is my last post today in order to be caught up on UBC.  Didn't I say I liked to talk about myself?  Well, this time I'm going to be talking about someone else.  Someone very dear to me.  My mommy dearest.

July 6, 1985 was a long and very painful day for me. After being in labor since 6:15am that morning, and after being on bed rest for 4 months, I finally welcomed my awesome daughter Nubia in to the world at about 11:15pm. She entered the world with a strong mind of her own with a take charge attitude and she has stayed that way.
I couldn't be more proud of the awesome person that she has become. She is always there when I need her. Love ya.
- from her Facebook status on Friday.

My mother is a force to be reckoned with.  She is headstrong and persistent.  She is also fearless, loving, courageous...there are not enough words I can say to describe her.  She is the most remarkable woman I know.  She says that I'm always there when I need her.  This inevitable truth {yes, I am tooting my own horn} is something that I have learned from her.  I have seen this time and time again with every day that has gone by.

As I have mentioned in a previous post, I am freakishly close to my mother.  We speak several times a day.  We communicate through texts, phone calls, and Google Chat.  We send each other cute little cards for random reminders that we appreciate one another.  She is the one person in the world that knows who I am and why I am the way I am.  She understands me.  She's the first person to "like" my posts.  While she may not comment on them, I know she reads everything that I write.

She takes pride in her children, blood and by marriage.  She loves people with an undeniable resilience.  She has faith in those around her.  She is a rock.

My mother did not have an easy life.  But she certainly does not lead to anything other than goodness.  She has shared things with me in the past that I found surprising, but what doesn't surprise me was her ability to move past it all and become an amazing example for her children, especially her daughters.  She once told me in a past relationship that if I was even engaged and on the day of the wedding had doubts, to follow that instinct.  That it wouldn't matter how much money went into the wedding.  She would always be there to back me up.

She's hysterical.  I don't mean that in a One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest kind of way.  I mean that in a she can say and do the funniest things to make a difficult situation light again.  She makes me laugh with every light-hearted birthday and Valentine day card.  When she answers the phone in her creepy, monotone voice, I just giggle with delight.  Some people may not understand our relationship and that is perfectly fine.  All that matters is that we understand each other.

I can't say enough about how much I love my mom.  She's my mommy dearest {yes, it's a movie reference; no, she does not beat me with a wire clothes hanger}.  She will always be mommy when I need her.  I love her so much and I am honored to be the apple that didn't fall far from the tree.
